Prince Footy Takeover
HRH Prince William visited Charlton Athletic last Friday (October 28) as part of his preparations before taking over the Football Association President job duty from his Uncle Andrew in May 2006, just in time for the World Cup.
Nice to see that he is preparing early at least, but why go to Charlton? Especially when he is an Aston Villa fan. Yes I know, ‘Aston Villa’ – why is that? Hardly the local team, did his mum come from the Midlands? Or was is dad’s decision, “don’t support Arsenal or Chelsea my boy, pick one of those northern teams, people will think you are in touch with the common people. Wonderful PR – I support The Trotters, that lion reminds me of the one of ones on ones flag.”
William said, “I am really excited to be taking up this role. Football is a game I love playing and watching.”
The FA chairman Geoff Thompson commented, “in 2000, the FA asked the Duke of York to take the role for five years. He has done a terrific job for which we are enormously grateful.”
Has he? Sorry I meant ‘he has’.
Find more about this story on the BBC website where you will see a picture of William checking his boot for dog shit as some cheeky rascal kicks a ball at him. The offender was soon overpowered by three bodyguards and taken to The Tower.
Charlton boss said that the incident had not affected Charlton’s performance against Bolton Wanderers as they always play crap and that Darren Bent is expected to make a full recovery.
