Today’s game has been cancelled due to a frozen pitch.

The centre of the pitch apparently has been relayed several times since the stadium opened and therefore the soil is ‘thicker’ in that area. As a result the under-soil heating takes longer to heat the central area and was unable to defrost the pitch in time for the game against Middlesbrough.

Blame too has been assigned to the forecast which gave no warning for the severe frost.

Bolton manager, Big Sam Allardyce, had been complaining about the number of matches The Trotters were having to face over the holiday period, but should not be accused of telling the groundstaff to leave the heating off for a few days.
