ACN Commitment Favoured by Meite

Abdoulaye MeiteRumours about Abdoulaye Meite were recently rekindled and confirmed by Bolton boss Sam Allardyce. It looked promising that one of the players on Sam’s January shopping list would actually join the club but Meite has been put off by the conditions made by interested managers.

The Marseille defender had this to say about his transfer:

“I was ready to sign for Bolton, but they said that to sign me I had to miss the African Cup of Nations, and so did Newcastle. I won’t sign for a club who will jeopardise my ambition to play for my country. I love my country and the national team is full of quality players.

“If I miss the ACN, the coach might not call me up for the World Cup.”

“If a team wants to sign me, they should sign me for my qualities and not my nationality. This is the most important competition in Africa, and I am very proud to be selected as I think we have a good chance of making the final.

“I do not expect my coach to play me when I am not in good form, so no one should ask me to leave my national team.”
