Wandering About Strikers

Strikers : One In – One Out?

Javier Saviola is looking more likely to join Bolton Wanderers after his contract with Barcelona recently ran out. With several teams initially interested with the Argentine forward a move to The Reebok was looking doubtful. However, Arsenal have now stated that they are no longer interested which leaves BWFC and PSV the only clubs with a chance of getting the signature of World Cup scoring and Olympic Gold winning 24 year old.

Bolton may need to sign another striker as Mexican Jared Borgetti may be on the way out as Le Liga club Racing Santander who are prepared to give Borgetti more time on the pitch rather than the subs bench.

Borgetti made it clear last season that he was disgruntled with the fact that Allardyce rarely gave him a chance to prove himself. Trouble now is that Borgetti failed to impress during this year’s World Cup in Germany, although to be fair he did pick up an injury his first game that meant he had to sit out of the remaining group games.

There have been rumours about Jared making a move since joining The Wanderers at the beginning of last season, one of which suggested that Benfinca were interested.

Bolton’s Need for Strikers

The Trotters seem to be all set in defence and midfield, but what about forwards?

Diouf, at the moment, is an unkown entity, he should be Bolton’s super striker but there have been doubts expressed by Allardyce and alleged problems with his mental health.

Kevin Davies could be the one man upfront for Bolton this coming season, he played brilliantly last term but lacked decent finishing overall but did improve in the latter months of the season.

Ricardo Vaz Té – what a star! Shame he couldn’t keep on his feet more last season. It might be too much to expect Vaz to be the main striker this season as it would surely be too much stressful responsibility to have the hopes of the club and the fans on his young shoulders.

Borgetti, should he stay (see above), could be the man to take The Whites to the top with his years of international experience. Given a chance by Big Sam this might be the season for the Mexican to prove himself.
