5th As Good As Winning The Prem?

“Finishing fifth would be like winning the Premiership for a club like ours.”

That’s is what Sam Allardyce thinks. It is quite a negative statement, but following recent performances and realistic point of view, for this season at least.

Perhaps Sam is conceding that 5th is as good as it gets – the best he can do.

Following a recent poll on BWFC24 it looks like many fans think there is a good chance that 5th is a attainable position, but there were a lot more that expected (more likely hoped) The Wanderers would finish in the top four.

Optimism still reigns in many Trotter fans’ hearts and a manager making such statements could be disheartening for the faithful supporters of the club.

Allardyce told Wanderers World:

“The size of the task of the 38 games of the season, with the resources, facilities and finance we have got, and the squad compared to everyone else in the Premiership, that is a major achievement in one season for a club like ours.”

Roughly translated this means that there isn’t enough money invested in the club, the training ground at Euxton is crap (and Tenerife isn’t it’s all it’s cracked up to be) and half the team members are useless!

Sam continued:

“It shows a level of consistency that really shouldn’t be reached for a club like ours with the resources it has available.”

What Big Sam means by this is that Bolton will never win The Premiership and will always be hindered by the things he said in the previous quote.

Sam, as ever, is indicating that there are not enough funds available for cultivating a competition winning team, whether it be The FA Cup, Premiership or any other that Bolton attempt. His tone suggests that he is perhaps getting fed up of the situation that he finds himself – a manager of a team that is (in his mind) lacking resources and funding.

Could this be the first signs that Big Sam’ is thinking about moving on to pitches new?
