Ice Baths for the Wanderers
Bolton boss has introduced a new scheme that he claims will help players cope better with the cold weather when playing. Bolton Wanderers are probably the only football club to use the new therapy.
What is this wonderful new training technique? Ice baths!
Yep, the squad are having their bits frozen off by order of the management.
Icy baths were the order of the day following the defeat by Fulham at Craven Cottage. Allardyce said, “they needed what I would call active rest. It is all about recovering the players as best as we possibly could.
“The players are shoved in ice baths, then hot water and the process continues like that. It’s what a player has to go through today.
“If you can last two minutes in the ice baths, I will pay you myself!
“But they accept it as part of their recovery now. It is not very pleasant.”
Is this a treatment or punishment following the defeat?
Cold weather must effect players on the pitch and gloves do very little to protect players so let’s hope the icy baths work so progress is made in the Carling Cup tonight. Hopefully Big Sam’s regime will not end up render half the squad unable to play because of flu or pneumonia.
