Mark Viduka is set to be the first victim of Gareth Southgate’s reorginisation of the club since he took over as Middlesbrough’s manager.
Many may think that getting rid of the Australian international will be a mistake as he seemed to have improved in the latter half of last season (he scored 16 goals overall). Add this to his World Cup experience and Viduka could be a valuable asset to other Premiership clubs, including Bolton Wanderers.
With one year left on his contract Riverside bosses will be eager not to let him go for free next summer. With this in mind offers around £3m are reported to be the favourable amount for the Aussie.
If Sam Allardyce does make an offer he will be up against Blackburn and possibly Newcastle (following Owen injury) in the race to get Viduka’s signature.
This is not the only link with the Socceroos that Bolton Wanderers FC has had this month. There was speculation that Sam Allardyce would be approached to replace current coach, Guus Hiddink.
