Bolton Wanderers Transfer Summary (Part 2)
Bye Bye
Radhi Jaidi has left The Wanderers to be reunited with former Bolton team-mate, Bruno N’Gotty at Birmingham City. After two years at The Reebok Stadium Jaidi proved to be an effective defensive player who was confident and capable of scoring too. He has proved himself at international level too, scoring for Tunisia in their first game in this year’s World Cup. Jaidi headed for The Blues for a mere £2m.
Real Racing Club de Santander interest in Jared Borgetti may have faded but his future with The Trotters seems uncertain, as it looks like Allardyce will let him go without a fight, suggesting that Borg will be spending another season on the bench should he remain at The Reebok.
Leavers’ Update
Khalilou Fadiga and Jay Jay Okocha have both moved to Qatar to perhaps spend their last footballing days. They will doubtless meet each other occasionally on the pitch and maybe socially too.
Jay Jay hopes that he will be able to take part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
(Good luck to them both.)
New Signings
As previously reported Abdoulaye Meite has finally joined The Wanderers.
Quinton Fortune has also joined Bolton from Manchester United after much speculation.
Sam Allardyce said the following of the adaptable player.
“Quinton is a player I have admired for a very long time. He is a quality performer with plenty of Premier League experience and he can play in a number of positions.
“He will be a very welcome addition to our squad.”
Although Quinton has only signed for one year he claims to be a the peek of fitness and keen to get out on the pitch and play. It looks like he is out to prove that injuries are a thing of the past and that he is more than capable of playing topflight football.
Basically, we let him play, he’s great, he leaves. A longer term contract would have been favourable.
Looking Unlikely
Bolton’s hopes of getting Argentine forward, Javier Saviola, may have been ruined by the intervention of the German club Hamburg. Saviola is still contracted with Barcelona while the UK media speculated about his future playing in England.
However, Saviola, who was reported to have agreed terms with The Wanderers involving a £3m deal, is alleged to have had a row with Barca bosses and now refuses to sign to prevent the Spanish club from profiting from the deal. Apparently his is prepared to stay with Barcelona and play for another club on loan until his contract expires and then make a permanent move for free.
These contradicting reports offer no real insight to Jav Sav’s future other than he does not seem to be joining BWFC, although perhaps a loan deal could be arranged.
Andranik Teymourian was on the verge of joining The Wanderers but has faced predicted problems with getting a work permit. Bolton bosses are thought not appeal in an attempt to resolve the issue.
Speculation about Martin Cesar, Ghana’s Sulley Muntari and Zimbabwe’s Esrom Nyandoro (on trial with Sheffield United) has ceased and it looks unlikely that any of these will be making the move to The Reebok.
Garra Dembele who had been linked with a move to Bolton is currently with Leeds on trial, has also caught the eye of Charlton Athletic.
