The Trotters cantered into the new season with a comfortable and outstanding win over Tottenham Hotspurs. Bolton showed that they could work well as a team, even with new signings, Quinton Fortune and Abdoulaye Meite, seamlessly fitting into Sam Allardyce’s starting eleven.

Season Preview : Trouble Ahead?

What indicators can be used to predict Bolton’s success, or lack of, in the forthcoming season? Past performance (obviously), summer transfers in and out, preseason preparation. First of all let’s take a look at the results of the preseason friendlies.

2006 Pre Season Results
Burnley 2 – 1 BWFC
Rangers 1 – 1 BWFC
Derby County 2 – 0 BWFC
Huelva 3 – 2 BWFC
Sevilla 3 – 0 BWFC
BWFC 1 – 3 AZ Alkmaar

If this collection of poor results repeated itself in the opening games of the new season it would surely prompt the singing of ‘The Premiership, is upside-down’.

Bolton Set to Make a Small Fortune

Bolton Wanderers are hoping to recoup some of the cost of signing former United midfielder Quinton Fortune. Although Fortune was free the club will have to pay his wages and so Bolton Wanderers are selling his first shirt on eBay to raise funds.

This is not the first time that The Wanderers have used this method of raising money. Former midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata had his first shirt sold on eBay and it raised over £1,600, a fan/stalker in Japan paying way over the odds for their piece of Nakata history.

The highest bid at the time of writing is £77.00 and with 3 days left this auction could finish as high as £79.00.

Update: The shirt sold for a little over £160, only a tenth of what Nakata’s went for.

Stovini Most Likely to Join

Lorenzo StoviniAccording to his agent, Lorenzo Stovini has become a likely candidate to join Bolton after leaving Seria A club Lecce. Although not commenting on the arrival of Stovini earlier in the week, Sam Allardyce had to admit that the former Roma and Reggina defender would be travelling to Bolton this week.

“Stovini is due in this week. Talks are on-going and I’m hopeful a deal can be concluded later this week. He is very experienced and should add more depth to the squad.”

Stovini’s agent, Giocondo Martorelli, told SkySports that Lorenzo would actually be signing an agreed 3 year deal before Allardyce could comment. Read more…
