Anelka Signs A Four Year Deal

What a surprise – Anelka is staying with The Wanderers. The announcement came via Bolton’s official site this morning [Thursday] after the French International signed another four year contract which is thought to be worth in the region of £70,000 per week for the 28 year old.

What have I done?

Of course Wanderers Chairman Phil Gartside has denied that their was any chance that Anelka’s future at The Reebok was under threat. So presumibly there was a problem with the previous four year contract that Anelka signed when he joined from Fenerbahce a year ago.

Here’s what Gartside had to say: Read more…

Former Wanderer Claims Misery For England

Tal Ben Haim, now with Chelsea, claims that Israel could upset England when they meet at Wembley for the Euro 2008 qualifying match early next month.

“Let’s say from 10 games against England we could maybe draw or beat England once. Israel needs to make sure that happens in this game.

“It’s going to be very hard. I know a lot of England players. There is a massive difference, but in any one game anything can happen.”

With Chelsea Tal see many England players during training (Frank Lampard, John Terry, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ashley Cole, Joe Cole and Wayne Bridge). Not much of a threat from the former Trotter – I doubt his English colleagues are waking with worry in the night.

Stelios and Campo to Cut BWFC Ties

Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson thinks that Brammal Lane is the place where Bolton’s Stelios Giannakopoulos can further his career (and maybe Campo too).

So far the two clubs have agreed terms for loaning The Blades the little Greek fella, but Robson is keen to persuade Stelios to sign full-time player.

Here’s what Robbo told The Blades Official Website:

“At the moment we need to convince Stelios that Sheffield United is the right club for him to progress his career.

“He had a hernia operation and it’s a four-week healing process – he had two weeks in Greece and is still over there at the moment.

“I’m trying to get in touch with Stelios to convince him that Sheffield United would be the right move for him.”

Ivan Campo and Stelios Giannakopoulos

The Championship sounds great. If you sign, I’ll sign.

There are further links between Sheffield United and Bolton Wanderers as it has be rumoured that Robson would like to tempt Spanish International, Ivan Campo. The Blades boss neither confirmed nor denied the reports about Campo by saying:

“There’s loads of speculation flying around, everytime I go into an interview, someone else is mentioned and I would rather talk about the games.

“When there is something to report, I will.”

Sounds like he is trying to get Campo, but if he fails (likely) then Robbo will deny that he even tried.

10 Years Celebration

Bolton Wanderers Football Club want The Reebok Stadium’s 10th anniversary to be celebrated in a blaze of colourful footy shirts. They are asking supporters to dig out their old shirts from the last decade (both home and away) for Saturday’s match.

10 Years at The Reebok

10 Years at The Reebok by Chris Marshall ©2007

This season seems to be season of twisted fate – first game of the season saw former Bolton boss Allardyce return to The Reebok. Now Everton will be the visiting team exactly 10 years after they stole 3 points during the first game at The Reebok.

Hopefully, if The Trotters score, their goal will be spotted by the refereeing personnel and Everton will return to Merseyside without a single dodgy point. It would be a very cruel twist of fate if history repeats itself 10 years on and Bolton are relegated because of the September 1st fixture.
