A single point lifts BWFC from the bottom, just.
The Wanderers managed to hold rival strugglers Tottenham to a draw but it was hardly a performance to hush Sammy Lee’s critics, nor those of Martin Jol.
The line up looked like something that Big Sam would have picked last season with only one newcomer, Andrew O’Brien in the 4-3-3 formation. A popular choice with the fans was Ivan Campo, who made his first appearance of the season, his name echoed around The Reebok throughout the match.
Campo was partly to blame for Robbie Keane’s goal; a powerful shot by Jermaine Jenas was parried by Jaaskelainen and defelected by the Spaniard into the path of Robbie Keane who scored his goal of the season with ease.

However Ivan brought the score level with an impressive header as he rose above Jenas and Rocha who failed to defend one of El-Hadji Diouf’s perfectly placed free-kicks.
Keane nearly stole all three points with a late attempt which caused Jussi to make an outstanding save.
A moment of friction between goalkeeper Jaaskelainen and Meite in stoppage time was a little worrying as they stood face to face in disagreement. According to Sammy Lee this was in fact, “a sign of how committed they are, not of tension.” Lee continued, “I have seen that happen at many clubs and I admire it.”
Overall Bolton Wanderers showed visible signs of improvement and deserved at least the one point that they gained. Every time that Bolton showed promise there was one man who was involved in some way every time, his name is Ivan Campo and Sammy Lee needs to remember him more often when making future squad selections.
Bolton currently find themselves hovering precariously above Derby who, with a goal difference of -16, lead the relegation race.
