Gary Cahill Extends Contract While Shittu Waits

Despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, defender Gary Cahill has signed for another three years with The Wanderers. Bolton manager, Gary Megson, who is obviously delighted had this to say;
“We’re delighted to keep Gary because I’ve always said I want to build the team around him. He’s been monitored by a lot of big clubs, so his decision to stay is one of the best signings we could have made.
“I believe he’s easily the best young centre-back in the country.”
Gary did spend some of his summer as part of the England squad. Although he was not chosen to play it is expected that he will be called up for international duty by The FA again in the near future.
Earlier this summer, when Matt Taylor signed a one year contract extension (until 2011), Megson was hoping to persuade Cahill to do the same saying,
“I have been delighted with him since we brought him here, when he had only played 17 Premier League games. He was all about potential.”
Offers for Shittu Please
Meanwhile it looks like Bolton are still hoping to off-load defender Danny Shittu. Last season Danny only made 11 appearances in all competitions and is less likely to feature in a starting line-up since the arrival of fellow central defender Zat Knight. Megson recently told The Bolton News;
“There is quite a bit of interest in Danny and we will see if it materialises into anything more concrete.”
With the Premier League due to start at the weekend I remains doubtful that Bolton will see further signings in time for the first match when Bolton Wanderers entertain Sunderland at The Reebok.
At the time of writing there has been no news whether Swansea have accepted Bolton’s final bid for Bodde.
