Megson to Sell Shittu and McCann to Strengthen Squad?
Despite denial by club officials Gary Megson claims that Danny Shittu and Gavin McCann are currently in negotiations with Portsmouth.
“We’re trying to move the squad forward and get it stronger. We have got 21 outfield players and it is about trying to make that number stronger. Portsmouth will be looking to do that as well, so whether anything happens with Danny and Gav we will have to see.”
There had been rumours that Pompey striker, David Nugent, could be part of the deal. Such talk is reminiscent of being in the school playground swapping Panini stickers. Nugent’s arrival at The Reebok is unlikely but money raised is likely to be put towards a striker for Bolton, maybe Elyaniv Barda.
The Mirror is also reporting the move for the duo to Portsmouth and say that it’s a done deal for £2m. The Mirror goes on to say that pair may make an appearance when Pompey play Birmingham City tonight.
“Bolton have agreed to accept a minimal fee up front with the rest to be paid once Pompey owner Alexandre Gaydamak sells the club.”
Update (August 19, 2009 at 1946)
BWFC24 can confirm that neither Dan Shittu nor Gavin McCann feature in Portsmouth’s starting 11, nor are they on the subs bench at St Andrews Stadium tonight. Looks like The Mirror got it wrong. Are you surprised?
