January Transfer Window Rumours

As the nights draw in and leaves fall and while hedgehogs prepare to be burnt alive in bonfires there is one thing that begins to blossom — transfer rumours. Having said that, transfer rumour seem to be more evergreen than biannual.

Camel MeriemThe latest rumour involves midfielder Camel Meriem, currently at AS Monaco, who is thought to have gained the interest of Megson. Meriem recently said,

“I have been linked with a move there before and other places in England but it never happened, so let’s wait and see.

“To play in the English league would be very good.”

Nearly every article about Camel Meriem uses ‘playmaker’ to describe him. He is a creative player who is noted for his excellent precision passing skills.

Bolton and Wigan are also reported to be interested in Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon. His future at Bramall Lane seems uncertain — as he explained recently,

“I haven’t been offered a new contract at Sheffield, I have had nothing in front of me.

“I’m 25 now and everyone wants to play in the Premier League. I think it will suit me more to how I play. It is an important time in my career and I want to play as high as I can. So if I play well that’s what could happen.”

Incidentally Kilgallon made his debut for The Blades as a left–back at The Reebok Stadium on the last day of March 2007 — Kevin Davies scored the only goal and The Wanderers remained 5th in the Premier League.

Kilgallon is a product of Leeds United youth training and would have been Alan Smith’s team–mate for a couple of years, before Smith was snapped up by Manchester United — and yes, Bolton have been linked with striker Alan Smith too.

Gary Megson is said to have a £2m deal ready to put forward to Newcastle United. Megson has been linked with so many strikers over the last few months; Elyaniv Barda, Achille Emana, Jermaine Beckford, David Nugent…

What Megson said back in August still rings true. When he was linked with Leeds striker, Jermaine Beckford he told The Bolton news;

“You’re going to get a lot of this kind of thing because people know we are looking for a certain position. Agents see that window closing down and the gossip fills papers.”

However, are Bolton Wanderers still in the market for another striker? Depending on how well Ivan Klasnic does this season there is the possibility of him staying with Bolton as a fully contracted Wanderer.

Whether there is any truth in any of these rumours remains to be seen. Meanwhile enjoy the season of autumn and try to save a few hedgehogs.
