More Transfer Rumours

While Camel Meriem trains with The Wanderers and Gary Megson announces that he wants to concentrate on Bolton’s defence two more players enter the rumour mill.

First of all Rochdale’s versatile winger, Will Buckley, who is happy to play as a striker too, has been linked with Bolton Wanderers. It is thought that Gary Megson has been tracking the 21 year–old since becoming BWFC’s manager a couple of years ago. It is thought that Bolton will sign the Oldham born player in January but loan him back to RAFC until the end of the season.

Bolton Wanderers have also been linked with Middlebrough’s Gary O’Neil, along with a slew of other Premier League clubs, including; Blackburn, Fulham and Wigan.

Speculation about O’Neil has the classic signs of unsubstantiated rumour. Middlesbrough were relegated recently, O’Neil’s contract expires within a year and he is currently playing well for his club.

It is fairly safe to say that Bolton will not be signing another midfielder, let alone pay in the region of £4m for O’Neil’s services.

Megson Hopes to Strengthen Defence

As briefly mentioned Gary Megson want to concentrate on defence. Although this does not necessarily mean that Bolton Wanderers will be signing new defenders in January, but doubtlessly rumours about new defenders at The Reebok will start soon.

Here’s what Megson told the official BWFC website;

“We’ve been playing okay at home. Liverpool and Tottenham were really good performances. I can understand people’s reaction after the first 45 minutes against Stoke, but I’ve heard that reaction at quite a few grounds — they are difficult to play against and have just been to Everton and drawn there.

“What we have got to do is just keep plugging away and expect to defend set-pieces better, as we didn’t do against Sunderland and Tottenham at the Reebok. It makes me smile how people talk about the number of goals we score from set-pieces this season, but we aren’t defending them well enough.

“That has got to improve and if we can do that then the results will come at home.”

Meriem to Train With BWFC — Bolton Too Cold For Klasnic?

There have been a number of rumours about BWFC this week and Gary Megson has spoken out to confirm one and dismiss others.

No Plans For Alan Smith

Gary Megson has denied the recent rumour about his hopes to sign Newcastle United’s striker, Alan Smith for Bolton Wanderers. He told the Bolton News,

“I’m an admirer of Alan Smith, he’s a terrific player, but there’s been nothing because the transfer window is closed. I don’t know where all these things come from, but it’s not here.”

Camel Invited to Train

Camel Meriem has been invited to join The Wanderers for a trial. As Megson explains Camel may be a short–term replacement for Sean Davis who is currently recovering from a knee operation.

“[Meriem] He’s out of contract, so we’ll just have a look because we’re in a situation with what has happened with Sean [Davis] where we could do with another body in there if it can be done.

“We’re not saying we’re going to do anything but he’ll come over, all being well, and spend a few days training with us.”

January Transfer Window Rumours

As the nights draw in and leaves fall and while hedgehogs prepare to be burnt alive in bonfires there is one thing that begins to blossom — transfer rumours. Having said that, transfer rumour seem to be more evergreen than biannual.

Camel MeriemThe latest rumour involves midfielder Camel Meriem, currently at AS Monaco, who is thought to have gained the interest of Megson. Meriem recently said,

“I have been linked with a move there before and other places in England but it never happened, so let’s wait and see.

“To play in the English league would be very good.”

Nearly every article about Camel Meriem uses ‘playmaker’ to describe him. He is a creative player who is noted for his excellent precision passing skills.

Bolton and Wigan are also reported to be interested in Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon. His future at Bramall Lane seems uncertain — as he explained recently,

Cahill and Davies for Spurs if not England — Redknapp’s Praise

Fabio Cappello

Once again the England manager, Fabio Capello, was watching Bolton Wanderers and boosted hopes of Cahill’s involvement in two upcoming international fixtures when England take on Belarus and Ukraine. Alas it wasn’t to be and Cahill will not be taking part in England’s next stages of World Cup qualification. Sadly it seems that Capello was more interested in seeing Tottenham Hotspur’s Peter Crouch and Aaron Lennon who both got a place in the England squad.
