It was going so well until the stroke of half–time, a clipped heel took Drogba down, Chelsea ahead and The Wanderers down to 10 men.

Chelsea's Didier Drogba falls after slight touch by Bolton's Jlloyd Samuel

Jussi Jaaskelainen returned between the sticks having been rested during the midweek clash with Chelsea in the League Cup. Kevin Davies made his 500th appearance of his career while Chris Basham made his first start of the season.

Bolton made a lively start and Johan Elmander almost took The Wanderers ahead by heading Chung–Yong Lee’s corner goalward for Petr Cech to save comfortably. After this early chance Chelsea started to bombard The Wanderers’ net. Jussi Jaaskelainen was alert to the threat and made a series of great saves. Former Wanderer, Nicolas Anelka combined well with Didier Drogba to create a number of opportunities and generally pester Bolton’s back four.

Camel Meriem Rejected by Wanderers

Little has been reported about Camel Meriem since his trial with Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

Despite his trial with the club and an apparent offer of a two year deal back in April (2009) it seems that Meriem no longer features in Gary Megson’s plans.

Camel Meriem may still become a player in the Premier League as he begun a trial with Blackburn Rovers this week. However, on his second day with former Wanderers’ manager, Big Sam Allardyce, the French international injured one of his knees and returned to France to recuperate. It is thought that Camel Meriem will return to Ewood Park in three weeks.

  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Salomon Kalou [15] CFC
  • Florent Malouda [26] CFC
  • Deco [67] CFC
  • Didier Drogba [89] CFC

It was never going to be easy for The Wanderers to get a result at Stamford Bridge but who would have known that it was going to so easy for Chelsea.

Bolton boss, Gary Megson, had made a few changes to the side that eventually beat Everton last Saturday. The most notable change was that Ali Al-Habsi was chosen over Jussi Jaaskelainen to face that could have been easily predicted as a barrage of shots. It is almost as Megson had already resigned to the fact that Bolton’s cup run would be halted.

Swine Flu — BWFC Cash In

Always ready to make a few quid (usually on eBay) Bolton Wanderers have responded quickly to the news outbreak that swine flu is infecting the English Premier League with BWFC branded face masks selling at a reasonable £14.99.

Instead of singing ‘stand up if you hate man u‘ perhaps ‘a–choo if you hate swine flu‘ could be a topical song that could be sung when Bolton travel down south for their League Cup clash against Chelsea.
