Meriem to Train With BWFC — Bolton Too Cold For Klasnic?

There have been a number of rumours about BWFC this week and Gary Megson has spoken out to confirm one and dismiss others.

No Plans For Alan Smith

Gary Megson has denied the recent rumour about his hopes to sign Newcastle United’s striker, Alan Smith for Bolton Wanderers. He told the Bolton News,

“I’m an admirer of Alan Smith, he’s a terrific player, but there’s been nothing because the transfer window is closed. I don’t know where all these things come from, but it’s not here.”

Camel Invited to Train

Camel Meriem has been invited to join The Wanderers for a trial. As Megson explains Camel may be a short–term replacement for Sean Davis who is currently recovering from a knee operation.

“[Meriem] He’s out of contract, so we’ll just have a look because we’re in a situation with what has happened with Sean [Davis] where we could do with another body in there if it can be done.

“We’re not saying we’re going to do anything but he’ll come over, all being well, and spend a few days training with us.”

O’Brien Not For Loan

Following rumours about Middlesborough being interested in a loan deal involving Andy O’Brien, Gary Megson also told the Bolton News,

“There’s been one or two clubs reported to be interested and I’ve had a call from one Championship club but I’ve told them ‘no’ and I’ve told Andy he won’t be going out on loan.”

Klasnic Leaving on Medical Grounds?

“[Klasnic] needs to play in a warm climate because of a kidney problem.”

There have been reports that Ivan Klasnic will be leaving Bolton in January and heading for warmer climes in Spain to play for La Liga team Xerez Club Deportivo.

Perhaps there is a hint of truth to this rumour as Ivan Klasnic may be suffering in Bolton — see ‘Will Winter Dampen Ivan Klasnic’s Positivity?‘

However, unless Klasnic is indeed struggling with England’s cooler climate, it is doubtful that Megson will want to let the Germanic Croatian go so soon.

Andy O’Brien Reminisces About Robson

Andy O’Brien has shared his thoughts about Sir Bobby Robson with the official Bolton Wanderers website. When the Bolton defender was at St James’ Park, Robson was Newcastle United’s manager and as O’Brien recollects Bobby had an endearing way with words.

“The thing I remember the most about him was when we played against Chelsea in a League Cup game, got beat in extra time and I’d missed a couple of opportunities.

“He came to me after the game and I said, ‘I should have done better with the first one, and I should have done better with the second one’. He looked at me and said ‘do you know what? I think you’re the best player I ever signed.’ About 30 seconds later he came back and said, ‘maybe not the best’ .”
